Hiring Information

Mallet Head

The Canberra Croquet Club hires out equipment and the lawns for social events, work functions and similar. With hirings you play a slightly simplified version of Golf Croquet.

Golf croquet can be played as single or doubles and takes about 20-30 minutes per game. Two games can be played at the same time on a lawn; therefore, eight players can be on a lawn at any one time.

Golf Croquet is simple enough to teach the basics to beginners in only about 10 minutes. When played as doubles we find that it generates just the right amount of competitiveness, and that beginners very quickly work out their tactics.

To hire the lawns there is a minimum charge of $200. This will cover one lawn for two hours, or two lawns for one hour. Further time is available at $100 per lawn per hour. The hiring charge includes equipment and having one or more instructors set up the lawn, explain how to play and help you with your games. Payment should be by cash on the day; the club doesn't have a credit card facility.

Players should wear flat-soled shoes or sandshoes on the lawns to help preserve the playing surface.

Playing Conditions

Children under the age of 8 are NOT allowed on the croquet lawns, or in the Clubhouse at any time other than to use the toilet. These children must be supervised by a non-playing adult.

No glass may be taken onto the lawns.

We encourage players to wear flat-soled enclosed footwear, since croquet balls and mallets hurt if they hit you. However bare feet or just sox are OK, if you accept the risk.

During weekdays, free parking is possible in the 3-hour spaces in Kaye Place, which is at the back of the Hyatt Hotel, off Flynn Drive. However their availability is very limited. You are likely to have to use the paid parking on the Albert Hall side of the Hyatt Hotel, or along Flynn Drive. Weekend parking is free.
